Welcome to Osaka!

After 13 hours of travelling by plane and 8 hours jet lag with France, I eventually arrived at Osaka Airport, which is based on island. I easily found the right train to bring me to Osaka. Because I was the only European in the carriage, some Japanese people were looking at me with curiosity and started talking to me. One of them kindly insisted in bringing me until the lobby of my hostel, to make sure I was safe. The most memorable thing I remember from Osaka is the very friendly tea ceremony, organised free by the hostel.

If you plan to stay 2/3 days in Osaka, here are some ideas of things to see. Please note that most of the photos were taken near Osaka Castle.

1. Admire the hoardings...I always find it interesting to see the local posters and hoardings when I visit a new country. I chose this one for my website, because of its colour and its manga-style characters.
2. Observe the Japanese skyscrapers...
Because of its overpopulation in its cities, the Japanese people have chosen to build skyscrapers rather than small individual houses. I took a photo of this one because I really liked its shape.

3. Admire Osaka Castle... Osaka Castle is located in a park in the centre of Osaka. The castle was built in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who managed to unify the Japan for the first time. The Castle on the right-hand side photo is not the original. The Castle was destroyed many times throughout history and this Castle you can see nowadays is a copy of the initial castle, built in 1931.
4. Enter Osaka Castle Park...The scenery displayed on the photo #4 reminded me one of my courses of drawing in primary school, during which we talked about themes like symmetry and vanishing point.
5. Attend a karate training course... Here is a typical example of a Japanese activity: an outdoor karate training course. This is very interesting and impressive to look at.

6. Walk around Osaka Castle... Well, I won't be flying to Japan every day so I really wanted to have a little "photo souvenir" of my stay in Osaka. I remember that 2 English girls who were visiting the park as well took this particular photo.
7. Go to the Osaka Science Museum under the snow... As I was sent to Japan by my laboratory, I obviously couldn't skip a visit in a museum. I decided to go to the Osaka Science Museum, which turns out to be interesting. In fairness, the heat inside was greatly appreciated considering it started to snow outside...
