You are now in Canada, in the Province of Quebec. There I took the opportunity to visit two towns: Quebec City, which is the capitol of the Province, and Montreal, which is surprisingly the biggest town in the Province. The Province of Quebec is different from the others as it is the only one with a predominantly French-speaking population. When you are actually French, it actually feels really strange to speak your mother tongue in a place so far from France! Because all its neighbours are English-speaking, the people of Quebec defend the French language more than the people in the French metropolis itself. For example, though the French language in France absorbs every new English word, the people of Quebec (Quebecois) make every effort to gallicise such words.
In any case, as suggested by the road-sign on the right-hand side, "stop" some minutes on this web page to discover some photos of the Province of Quebec, taken in August 2004... without Celine Dion . |
